{"id":1631,"date":"2003-07-28T18:10:29","date_gmt":"2003-07-29T01:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mossback.org\/archives\/2003\/07\/monkey-business\/"},"modified":"2003-07-28T18:10:29","modified_gmt":"2003-07-29T01:10:29","slug":"monkey-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/2003\/07\/28\/monkey-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Monkey business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tFollowing up on findings generated from Original Internet Architecture (demonstating that mediocre programmers in a snit-fit could design network architecture), researchers have learned that <a title=\"NewTech Developer Update: Higher Primates Can Program VB, XML\" href=\"http:\/\/www.enewsbuilder.net\/NewTech\/e_article000163707.cfm\">baboons can program Visual Basic and XML:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Research by scientists suggests that higher primates represent certain kinds of knowledge internally by discrete symbol structures, called scripts. <a href=\"http:\/\/hcs.harvard.edu\/~husn\/BRAIN\/vol2\/Primate.html\">This research<\/a> tends to support the hypothesis that primates can program. <a href=\"http:\/\/dspace.dial.pipex.com\/town\/avenue\/fab23\/psi\/\">Other scientific research<\/a> also supports the idea that primates may be used for routine programming, such as maintenance and report writing, within 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>The implications of McAuliffe&#8217;s work has wide scope, and may effect software developer education, open source programming, H1-B visas, and commercial software testing. The research is already making waves in the business community. Some early adopters&#8211; and even some venture capitalists&#8211; are funding business models based on so-called &#8216;primate programming&#8217;.
