{"id":2292,"date":"2003-03-13T18:52:44","date_gmt":"2003-03-14T01:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mossback.org\/archives\/2003\/03\/wifi-without-relativity\/"},"modified":"2003-03-13T18:52:44","modified_gmt":"2003-03-14T01:52:44","slug":"wifi-without-relativity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/2003\/03\/13\/wifi-without-relativity\/","title":{"rendered":"WiFi without Relativity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tDave Weinberger&#8217;s Salon article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/tech\/feature\/2003\/03\/12\/spectrum\/index.html\">claiming RF interference is a myth<\/a> hasn&#8217;t gone over too well, according to Weinberger&#8217;s source, <a title=\"SATN.org: Comments from Bob Frankston, David Reed, Dan Bricklin, and others\" href=\"http:\/\/www.satn.org\/\">David Reed:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>And of course, there are the usual angry letters that seem to think I&#8217;m claiming to have discovered the earth is flat, or that relativity is wrong (someone actually thought I was arguing that!)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Reed is most famous, perhaps, as one of the co-authors of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reed.com\/Papers\/EndtoEnd.html\">the 1981 paper<\/a> arguing for an architecture-neutral Internet. (If we&#8217;re going to start enumerating technical myths, I&#8217;d start with architecture neutrality; the Internet&#8217;s initial design wasn&#8217;t neutral, it was crippled with respect to real-time data transfer, but if you read this blog at all, you&#8217;ve seen that already.)<\/p>\n<p>The weakest parts of Reed&#8217;s theories about RF signalling relate to non-informational sources of interference such as barriers, reflection, multipath, and entropy.
