{"id":3081,"date":"2005-02-07T12:29:35","date_gmt":"2005-02-07T19:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mossback.org\/archives\/2005\/02\/behes-little-column\/"},"modified":"2005-02-07T12:29:35","modified_gmt":"2005-02-07T19:29:35","slug":"behes-little-column","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/2005\/02\/07\/behes-little-column\/","title":{"rendered":"Behe&#8217;s little column"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tIntelligent Design creationist Michael Behe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/02\/07\/opinion\/07behe.html?ex=1265518800&#038;en=b530716e1f96e7ba&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland\">has an op-ed<\/a> in today&#8217;s New York Times arguing in favor of ID; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pandasthumb.org\/pt-archives\/000797.html\">The Panda&#8217;s Thumb<\/a> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pandasthumb.org\/pt-archives\/000796.html\">couple postings<\/a> ripping it apart, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovery.org\/scripts\/blogs\/csc.php\/2005\/02\/07\/making_the_case_for_intelligent_design\">religious blogs<\/a> have some <a href=\"http:\/\/wittingshire.blogspot.com\/2005\/02\/behe-in-new-york-times.html\">hailing it<\/a>. I don&#8217;t have time for comment on this today, but it&#8217;s worth wading into for anyone with a few hours to spare.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that ID isn&#8217;t only bad science, rejected by virtually all of the world&#8217;s biologists, it&#8217;s also bad religion that&#8217;s rejected by all the world&#8217;s honest religious people; see The Revealer for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therevealer.org\/archives\/today_001622.php\">another cogent critique<\/a> of Behe&#8217;s column: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nMichael J. Behe, a senior fellow with the Discovery Institute, pleads the case of Intelligent Design in The New York Times, explaining I.D.&#8217;s &#8220;four linked claims,&#8221; and disingenuously describing the first two controversial assumptions as &#8220;uncontroversial.&#8221; It&#8217;s an exercise in anachronism, pointing mechanical metaphors backwards towards biology to prove that &#8220;life overwhelms us with the appearance of design.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>BTW, I had the opportunity to argue ID with a fellow who works at the Discovery Institute during a recent foray to Seattle, and I have to say I wasn&#8217;t impressed by his honesty.
