{"id":3721,"date":"2005-10-26T12:01:44","date_gmt":"2005-10-26T19:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/2005\/10\/26\/another-terrorist-supporter-at-the-guardian\/"},"modified":"2005-10-26T12:01:44","modified_gmt":"2005-10-26T19:01:44","slug":"another-terrorist-supporter-at-the-guardian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/2005\/10\/26\/another-terrorist-supporter-at-the-guardian\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Terrorist Supporter at the Guardian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tRegular readers will recall <a href=\"http:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/2005\/10\/10\/china-deals-with-a-dissident\/\">our link<\/a> to the gory tale of the killing of a Chinese democracy activist reported in the Guardian which turned out to be hysterical (the guy was beaten but not killed.)  <a href=\"http:\/\/dailyablution.blogs.com\/the_daily_ablution\/2005\/10\/guardian_employ.html\">The Daily Ablution has more on the reporter, who fits a profile of sorts:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nToday&#8217;s Private Eye, making explicit comparisons with the <a href=\"http:\/\/dailyablution.blogs.com\/the_daily_ablution\/2005\/07\/laffaire_aslam_.html\">Dilpazier Aslam affair<\/a> &#8211; to which the Eye has gleefully alluded at least three times &#8211; raises some interesting points concerning Mr. Joffe-Walt&#8217;s background.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it comes as no surprise to learn that the Guardian foreign correspondent, who has 18 months of experience as a professional journalist, was moved to act as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stp.uh.edu\/vol68\/139\/news\/news1.html\">a &#8220;human shield&#8221; in Iraq<\/a> (he found the experience &#8220;very stressful&#8221;). Like Mr. Joffe-Walt&#8217;s dissociation from the real world, such sentiments are to be expected in the Guardian newsroom.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s of more concern is the reporter&#8217;s avowed support for a terrorist organisation (does this sound familiar?). In an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/3068501\/site\/newsweek\/\">interview <\/a>with Newsweek magazine, he reveals that:<\/p>\n<p>    &#8220;I support the Earth Liberation Front. I think what they do is morally defendable as long as they don\u2019t kill people. That\u2019s the principle of direct action.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ELF, a group of serial arsonists, caused over $43m worth of damage in 600 attacks between 1996 and 2002 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stopecoviolence.com\/pdfs\/2_12_02.pdf\">PDF<\/a>), when FBI named them the largest and most active terrorist group in the US.
