{"id":4408,"date":"2008-05-02T19:32:44","date_gmt":"2008-05-03T02:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/index.php\/archives\/2008\/05\/02\/markeys-hearing-looms\/"},"modified":"2008-05-02T19:32:44","modified_gmt":"2008-05-03T02:32:44","slug":"markeys-hearing-looms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bennett.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/02\/markeys-hearing-looms\/","title":{"rendered":"Markey&#8217;s Hearing Looms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tNot to be outdone by the Senate or the FCC, good ole chairman Markey of the House Telecom Subcommittee is holding a hearing on his personal favorite piece of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadcastingcable.com\/article\/CA6557066.html\">Internet regulation this Tuesday<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The House Telecommunications &#038; Internet Subcommittee will hold a hearing May 6 on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opencongress.org\/bill\/110-h5353\/show\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">Internet Freedom Preservation Act<\/font><\/a> (HR 5353), which could put some more teeth in the Federal Communications Commission&#8217;s guidelines on network nondiscrimination, the issue that prompted the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadcastingcable.com\/article\/CA6554121.html\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">network-neutrality<\/font><\/a> and, more recently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadcastingcable.com\/article\/CA6553769.html\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">network-management<\/font><\/a> debates.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadcastingcable.com\/article\/CA6531920.html\"><font color=\"#0000ff\">introduced by Subcommittee chairman Ed Markey (D-Mass.) in February<\/font><\/a> in the wake of various complaints against cable operators and telephone companies for their network-management practices.
