Speaking of traffic, NZ Bear has hit upon a new way to drive traffic to your blog: post a completely ridiculous ranking of blogs, based on an allegedly objective measure; when your method is criticized, make it even worse. It’s a pretty funny exercise.

  1. Oh my God… you mean I’ve been wasting my time posting the funniest and meanest damn stuff on the web and narcissistic comments on A-Lister weblogs when all I had to do was write up a Perl script and post lists and polls?

AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH I AM SUCH AN IDIOT! 🙂

    -ls/file13

  2. perl script? You don’t need no stinking perl script – just rank the blogs according to any criterion you want to use, and CLAIM your list was computer-generated. Dozens of nitwits will believe you, and five years from now some wacko will put your list in a book about the web and your place in history will be secured.

Nothing to it – you just have to lie convincingly.

  3. Richard, I noticed the new Alexa rankings are up. The only flaw I see in them is that all sites hosted on blogspot get the same, abnormally high ranking.

  4. Alexa doesn’t distinguish sub-domains, so all blogspot.com sites have the same ranking, all weblogs.com sites, have the same ranking, etc. Since no serious blogs use blogspot, it doesn’t matter all that much. Intuitively, it’s much more accurate than any other ranking I’ve seen of blogs, although they have me ranked higher than I deserve.
