Gallup Poll Analyses – Are the News Media Too Liberal?

PRINCETON, NJ — Forty-five percent of Americans believe the news media in this country are too liberal, while only 14% say the news media are too conservative. These perceptions of liberal inclination have not changed over the last three years. A majority of Americans who describe their political views as conservative perceive liberal leanings in the media, while only about a third of self-described liberals perceive conservative leanings

A reader points out that the Davis recall was opposed by virtually all the print media in the state, yet the people passed it overwhelmingly. Are the media out of touch with the people?

  1. Very interesting. From the same Gallup poll:

“Moderates are more “moderate” in their views, but still roughly as many say the news media are too liberal as say they are about right, and relatively few moderates say the news media are too conservative.

Plus, about 4 in 10 Americans today identify themselves as conservatives and about the same number identify as moderates, while less than 20% identify as liberals.”

Maureen Dowd is obviously anti-Davis and pro-Arnold, from what she’s written, when compared to many other op-ed columnists. And at the same time, she blasted the feminists who went after Arnold on groping. So does she actually agree with you, Richard, in certain circumstances ? 🙂

I’d love to see alongside the gallup poll the stats of those polled who have read either Eric Alterman’s book or Bernard Goldberg’s.

While on the gallup’s site, I find it interesting that 33% of Americans polled approve of displaying a monument of the Quran in schools and government.

Good stuff on their site these days.

  2. Unfortunately, facts and studies get in the way of another coservative claim.
