This remark of John’s gave rise to great peals of laughter:
Remember, outside of an op-ed or two, there wasn?t anything of substance that these guys really did to oppose the war. It?s not like they were among the millions who took to the streets.
Absolutely priceless.
But it’s true grasshopper.
The Bush junta has, since 2000, had an organized and growing opposition to it not seen within my lifetime, actually.
I could draw parallels to Vietnam, but they’d be incomplete.
The protests helped demolish the myth fed to us by the media that this was just like Iraq I. And they reinforced the opposition to Bush.
So, this will have been seen as key to defeating Bush. There’s LOTS of newly registered voters who won’t vote for Bush, thanks to the protests, Farenheit 9/11, and of course, the way in which Bush got to the Oval Office in the first place.
The Carlyle folks could’ve actually done more than just an op-ed or two, and that was my point.
They could have put money into the war opposition.
But, of course, they didn’t, and now we have the quagmire, and the not really sovereign government of Iraq.
good reading.
Great article. Thanks!
It really shows where this right-wing hate speech against Michael Moore is coming from the same folks who tried to impeach Bill Clinton, and all because they couldn’t accept him into their hearts as their personal President and Chief Executive.
Here’s another great article.
The article is a shrill, ad hominem attack that avoids the serious evidence Isikoff reported today on the alleged $1.4 billion payoff from the Saudis to President Bush’s father. It turns out most of the money in question was on a contract that a Carlyle Group company concluded before Bush was associated with the group.
But don’t let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.
