Sorry I was some one who lit a candle and walked peacefully around the White House during the Vietnam war – while supporting LBJ for civil rights. This kind of demonstration is like that and statements like “their ability to turn out a few tattered demonstrators” is like LBJ and Nixon’s and I don’t buy it.
“Cover-up”? Don’t hurt yourself stretching way out there.
Hey Richard, I just ran across a term (new for me at least) for members of the religious right who’ve aligned themselves with the neocons: “deacons”. Ever heard it?
No, I hadn’t; it has a certain zing.
But you know the Republican Party is a big tent, right?
Seems to be growing.
It seems to be splintering to me. The unifying force for the last few years has been strong national defense, but as that issue recedes into the background due to success in the Middle East, the values and morals and nannyism stuff will become more important. The Dems could make a big pickup among libertarians if they weren’t so spineless.
Simply amazing how quickly it’s all back to normal on the national defense front for yall. The Dems can have ye olde Libertarians. Add the Greenies, and you’re practically there. I can’t wait to see that caucus…heck, I’d pay.
Totally agree with you, Richard.
Of course, if another battlefront comes into play…
Then we have to evaluate it and see if it’s serious. Maybe the Dems are willing to growup on national defense and re-assume the old Scoop Jackson posture.
Whether it’s a Democatic or Republican administration, I’m not sure post-Vietnam Americans are willing to send their boys off to battle indefinitely. And if another “front” comes into play (while we’re still “in” Iraq), there could be a peace backlash, don’t you think?
Having lived through a year of hell with a mother of some one who went ‘over there’ because there seemed to be no jobs around at the time he joined up – and no war – I d-double guarantee you there are a lot of families not willing to bury their sons and daughters to keep a stupid war going – for some one else’s ‘freedom’. And he served alongside a lot of soldiers who had no faith in what they were doing.
Looks like the Iran “front’ is in the works…
Probably was all along.
Then there’s Sudan, Congo, try Cambodia and Mexico where immunities are removed to eliminate opposition candidates. Egypt, Lebanon, is anyone else humming along?
Sorry, I’ve been airborne (in airplanes, not high) for the past few days.
