This blog is used to be hosted at Hosting Matters, a web service that claims to be blog-friendly. A few days ago, they noticed it was putting a lot of load on its little server, which it shares with 200 other users. So their response was to disable comments by nuking the permissions on the WordPress comment script. The MySQL database used by WordPress got corrupted in this process, either by something the spammers were doing or by their method of disabling comments. They claim to have sent me e-mail about their actions, but there’s no copy of any such e-mail in any of my logs, which are replicated on two different systems.
Today they sent me an angry e-mail – which I got – complaining about my blog and the steps I’d taken to reverse the actions they’d taken. It looked to me like their actions were vandalism, and not having any reason to think otherwise, I did what any red-blooded American would do and reversed them.
Hosting Matters is clearly run by a bunch of idiots, so I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. If you can recommend a decent blog hosting service, kindly send me a note at richard at bennett dot com. Comments are enabled at the moment, with moderation.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
UPDATE: Now it’s hosted at Host Monster. The immediate changes are striking:
* Costs less
* Performs better
* More Disk and Bandwidth quota
* Tech Support isn’t raging with PMS.
* Did I say? It runs way faster.
Congratulations on being named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.
New site looks good, although it seems a little slow today. Could be congestion on that dang not-so-neutral internet.
Thanks, and cheers to you for the same. Jeff Jarvis is writing about it but I’m too busy to comment. Damn CVS.
Thanks for sharing
best regards
