Mr. Sterling central

An off-hand post on the demise of the idiotic Mr. Sterling show continues to generate heat from Sterling’s disappointed minions (45 messages so far), many of whom think I have to power to dictate NBC’s programming schedule. If I did, I’d cancel The West Wing and replace it with an hour-long version of South Park.

  1. Mr Sterling was the most refreshing show we’d seen in years. I can’t believe it was cancelled. They should definitely rethink their decision. Stupid sitcoms are kept on the air season after season, truly mindless garbage. Finally you air a show with some substance to it and it gets cancelled. Makes absolutely zero sense.

  2. I loved the show Mr. Sterling. It made you think about what the government can and cannot do. It was informative and entertaining at the same time. I can’t believe they cancelled the show. Any chance NBC would change their minds?

  3. I usually don’t stay home on Friday nights.Mr.Sterling kept my ass at home.Great show, bring it back!

  4. My husband and I both stayed home on Friday
nights just to watch Mister Sterling. We thoroughly enjoyed this show. It was amusing and emotional and maybe it was just too good of a show. We felt it was well written, informative, had humor and Josh Brolin did a superb job of acting. Why is it when a show comes on that makes sense and all of the family can watch it that you find it is cancelled. We have talked about this show in our groups and would like to know the real reason it was cancelled. Was it the writers, was it too political because it couldn’t be the script or the acting. I would
    appreciate a reply. Thank you.

  5. My Mom,dad, and myself all sat down to watch Mr. Sterling together. I could not believe when you showed a preview of your fall line up Mr. Sterling was not on it. I wish you would find a spot to put it back on air because that is the one show I was looking forward to this season on NBC.

  6. I agree with every single one of these posts. Mr Sterling was an outstanding show. I had no trouble letting my children watch it, and enjoyed the conversations about our country that were sure to follow. NBC has taken chances on many sitcoms that were dull, brainless, witless, or worse, yet it yanked this drama. Why oh why? It was the one show that we truly couldn’t wait to see, and the only thing I always set my TIVO to record. I hope they will consider bringing it back as a mid-season replacement when a few of their obviously horid choices for fall fall flat.

  9. This sounds like what seems to be rampant in the corporate world these days…Someone high up in a company making a decision without either getting the facts in the first place, or ignoring everything they’re told. I agree with all the people that have posted, and can’t believe either that they cancel a good show and keep other awful things going, even if it means raising production costs. (Friends, anyone?)

The one thing I will say is they gave Mr. Sterling more of a chance than they did Hunter. They advertised it up in late April about the 2 hour movie that would start off the new season of Hunter. After that, no advertising. Within 3 more episodes, Hunter was gone. Almost as bad as Fox’s cancellation of Girls Club last year, which was cancelled after two weeks. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY TELL A SHOW WON’T SURVIVE AFTER TWO – FOUR WEEKS?? And if they are that horrid, WHY DID SOMEONE MAKE THE DECISION TO MAKE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE???

Let the people decide if they want a show to continue or not. In today’s age of technology, we could have a device hooked to our sets recording/transmitting what were watching when, instead of guesstimating with Arbtron or Nielsen ratings, or whatever divination method network executives seem to use which return results as bout as accurate as reading tea leaves.

  10. USUALLY DURNING THE FRIDAY NIGHTS OF THE FALL IT IS FOOTBALL, I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT FOOTBALL COULD NOT WAIT UNTIL MR. STERLIING COME BACK FOR THE FALL FORGET FOOTBALL. NOW NBC STUPIDLY CANCELED THE SHOW. AND WHEN IT WENT OFF THEY SAID SEASON FINALE SO IN REALITY NBC OWES US SOME MORE EPISODES OF MR. STERLING.I HOPE THIRD WATCH IS COMING BACK.

  11. Dittos. And its not just b/c of reality tv. we’re survivor, bachelor,etc.etc. fans too, but we can appreciate a good drama when we see one- which are rare. HELLLLLLOOOO NBC. We ARE your target audience 28, 29 year olds 2 kids. Did it not get the highest ratings for Friday night? I would think so.We were home alot with kiddos, but if not we always recorded it. Maybe that’s why the ratings weren’t higher- VCRs, tivo? I think I’ll vomit if I see (or actually promptly turn the channel) another Law and Order (borrrrrrring) rerun. What happened with Josh and Porcia? Is any one sending this to execs? Or do you know who to write to? Sign me up.

  12. i agree mr sterling was an excellent show and was an excellent evening of tv when you had the great show “ed” on beforehand. mr sterling reminded me of the judge on picket fences who always found a way to do the right thing even if not exactly by the normal rules. i think most people like to hope that their politicians and judges etc… are actually trying to do a good job for you and in mr sterling we were given what we would like to have in reality .ps whos in charge of cancelling shows anyway? lets keep on the highly reviewed shows and ditch the stupid reality shows.

  13. I was totally shocked to read this board. I had no idea until this evening that Mr. Sterling was not coming back and I feel heartbroken. I truly loved that show and kept telling my coworkers that I couldn’t wait for it’s return. I think there are much worse shows out there that could be ditched. Ed and Mr. Sterling were pretty much the only thing I watched last fall. They better not cancel Ed. I would love to write a letter to NBC if someone could post an address to write to. Thank you.

  14. We’re tired of the mindless sitcom garbage!! Mr. sterling was(is) a great program. Definitely deserved more than a partial season.

  15. I agree with all of you guys. I am so sick of the trash on tv with all the sexual inuendos. There is nothing sacred anymore. Mr. Sterling was a breath of fresh air right in the middle of the foul odor of today’s tv. Obviously NBC can’t hack a show that is clean and good family fare. Shame on you NBC!!

  16. I can’t believe Mr. Sterling was cancelled. Like everyone said, it was a breath of fresh air. Maybe NBC is thinking of a new sitcom in which Homer Simpson ( maybe networks can combine all their great talents!?!) watches the local sewer system grow bacteria. Oh, yeah, forgot, they have lots of shows with that premise. Bring back the Senator.

  17. What a disappointment to learn our favorite show will not be returning to the fall lineup. We lose Providence and Mr. Sterling. These two shows were must-see television for my entire family. We have all of the episodes taped from last season for Mr. Sterling. Guess Friday nights be never be the same. I refuse to watch mindless 30 minute sitcoms. They have no substance and just try to push the envelope in what is acceptable on tv.

  18. Intelligent comment yo! Shows like Mr. Sterling are for decent people with principles and high morals. Too bad NBC doesn’t want to keep shows that portray these. Mr. Sterling was a breath of fresh air in the foul stink of todays tv sitcoms and reality shows. Shame on you NBC!

  19. I, too, was disappointed that NBC cancelled my new, favorite show, “Mr. Sterling.” It’s unfortunate that the execs at NBC choose to turn a blind eye to shows that are well-written and well-acted. I was concerned this would happen and followed the ratings of the show. They weren’t great, but the show beat out a lot of other crap on TV that stays on the air. I guess expectations were higher for a Lawrence O’Donnell, Jr. produced show, but they were respectable and with more time and opportunity to attract an audience NBC would have had another winner. I was anticipating cross-over episodes with the “West Wing.”

  20. I was waiting all summer for the season premier of Mr. Sterling. I am very disappointed that it has been cancelled. I too am sick of the mindless garbage on TV and would like to see the return of Mr. Sterling. Please NBC reconsider your decision.

  22. I was waiting all summer for the season premier of Mr. Sterling. I am very disappointed that it has been cancelled. I too am sick of the mindless garbage on TV and would like to see the return of Mr. Sterling. My husband and I would usually rent movies on Friday night but we stopped doing this because of Mr. Sterling. Please NBC reconsider your decision.

  23. Mr. Sterling was our number one show last season. It was the only show that the entire family liked and my 20 year old would stay home to watch it with us. I have little faith in the “people” who determine which shows I should continue to see and which to cancel.

  24. Another quality show bites the dust! I think the networks have totally lost the ability to choose shows that are intelligent and watchable.
    Farewell, Mr. Sterling

  25. I just knew they would cancel Mr. Sterling. This was a decent, family oriented show and these type shows don’t last long on TV. I’ve always hated politics until Mr. Sterling. I was actually learning some things about politics! Wish they would reconsider.

  26. A show that my 7 year old son and I could watch together on a Friday night. God forbid. Thanks NBC. I guess I’ll be renting on Friday nights from now on…

Miss Match? Can you say unemployment?

  27. I can’t remember feeling this way about a television program since I was seven years old and Batman and Robin was first introduced. a

    What a disappointment.

  28. Fridays will not be the same. We we’re so looking forward to Mr. Sterling. It was most intertaining. Shame on who ever made that decision for NBC. Your so concerned about ratings, you pitch morality out the window. Given a chance (and some more advertising on your part) Mr. Sterling would have brough you better ratings, it was to good not to.

  29. NBC, please say it’s a mistake. Mr. Sterling was one of the best shows my wife and I have ever seen. Not only did it have engaging characters but actually showed the realities of government WITHOUT POLITICS. Please come to your collective sences and return a winner to your lineup.

  30. NBC, please say it’s a mistake. Mr. Sterling was one of the best shows my wife and I have ever seen. Not only did it have engaging characters but actually showed the realities of government WITHOUT POLITICS. Please come to your collective senses and return a winner to your lineup.

  31. I agree with everyone here when they say Mr Sterling was a great show to watch. Every Firday night I always looked forward to each episode, which is rare! I hope we see a DVD release of all nine or so episodes. Hopefully NBC execs will get thier act together and return the show. I thought it gave many other similar shows a run for thier money. . Its West Wing but with heart. I’m not even into politics but this show was pure magic. The new NBC lineup isnt all that great. Please bring back that magic…

  32. After watching the first 2 weeks of the new fall lineup, I have some faint hope for Mr. Sterling returning.

NBC has aired some real stinkers. Las Vegas is absolutely awful, Lyon’s Den failed to capture my interest, Miss Match has been disappointing and a few others that are hardly worth mentioning have also flopped.

I dont know if any of the above shows are on the chopping block, but Mr. Sterling would be a great midseason call-up. Seems like to much to hope for, but one can dream.

  33. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the show, Mr. Sterling. It was an extremly refreshing show that we looked forward to every friday night. We’re shocked that it canceled. Hey, NBC, if it aint broke, don’t fix it. You pulled the trigger pre-maturely on this one. Mr. Sterling should be brought back.

  34. I also hope they bring back Mr. Sterling. It was a really good show. I hope NBC receives enough mail that they change their minds and bring it back.

  35. There are very few shows worth watching on tv anymore but Mr Sterling was one of them. If I find a program I like I’ll watch it for two or three seasons and then move on. As far as Mr Sterling goes it’s to bad I could not watch it a little longer. I use to like Law and Order but nowit is an overkill. I can’t believe the mentality of the progaming today.

  36. It’s no suprise that nbc canceled mr. sterling.
It showed a man disgusted with backroom politics,
a man with integrity, and common sense. A growing segment of our population holds this view. So, it’s put on Friday night,(the death knell for a tv show), and given little fanfare. I’m sure the higher ups at nbc heard from some politicos who didn’t like the light they were being portrayed in. Like politicians would never add a non-related amendment to a bill, like politicians would never give themselves 3 straight raises while the country goes through economic turmoil.
Like 98% of senators aren’t millionares already.
No, a fresh breath of air like this just could not last. If there had been another season, I’m sure by the end of it, no less then vp cheney would have called the show “baseless” and “unamerican”. I’m Tony Hilton, and that’s my two cents worth. Good morning.

  37. All I can say is that I guess I will have to go out on Fridays now. I was really digging Mr Sterling and hoped it would come back.

  39. There seems to be a common thread running through all these comments- The majority of what is shown on TV is mindless junk. Very few shows, like Mr. Sterling have the “meat and potatoes” of what American’s crave. We are turning into mindless zombies when we sit and watch stupid sitcoms that have no substance at all. I would rather play a game with my kids or parents than watch the junk that is on most nights. At least my kids will learn some real lessons about fair play, sharing, being considerate, etc. and not about sexual innuendos.

  40. My TV viewing is limited but when I watched this show I was hooked. I actually looked forwarded to the next episode and cleared my calendar.

Bring it back, TV worth watching!

  41. The show was GREAT. Much better than “The Lyon’s Den”, which sucks, and Ed which is mindless.

C’mon NBC, bring it back and move it to a real time spot, and stop with the sh|tcoms and the Law and Order clones. Enough already.

  42. Who cares about Mr. Sterling?? Ed was the best show on T.V. I can not believe NBC cancelled Ed. The humor on the show was so refreshing. I am going to miss that show and the cast so much. Please somebody BRING BACK ED!! No more Warren, no more $10 bets, and what about a Man for Molly? What about Eli, Phil and Shirley…I just can not believe one the the best shows on television is gone.

  43. we agree with every post here…..luckily we recorded every episode! Bring back Sterling and boot some of the mindnumbing trashola!!! Jason and Maryann in Naples, Fl.

  44. Why have you wasted so much time with inane reality shows and assinine sitcoms. Mister sterlin was ashow of substance and perceived morality and values and you gave this up for junk tv. You have had loyal fans, loyal viewers, so why can’t you bring back this type of programming or ay lest this series in a later version as he has developed his character and staff. I would also include the improvement to the housing he purchased and the helping of development of the neighborhood center and developement of the neighborhood way of life. We know there would be developement of hiis character in office and then there would be the coming re-election, where his father could help!

How about bringing back some dignity and style to tv for a change.

It was the best tv show for a long while! and now i read that there are no more episodes because it was cancelled. It’s a shame 🙁
