Reagan’s famous question in his campaign against Carter in 1980 was “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” It resonated with the voters in its time and place because of the conditions that defined that time and place.
This year’s election question, I submit, is “Are you better off than you were on Sept. 11, 2001?” My answer to that is a resounding “Yes!”.
The answer’s a resounding NO.
1. Terrorist groups have done the sorcerer’s apprentice thing, and now they’res more of them than before.
2. Despite the hoopla about airport security, it could happen again. Anybody who’s seen a TV show or movie about prisons can figure that out.
On this point, Michael Moore was spot on.
3. We have a government that is now manipulating the people’s fear of terrorism for its own political agenda, something it hadn’t done before.
4. We STILL have a “president” that goes into “deer-in-the-headlights” mode when a problem arises. He can’t even speak with journalists without putting his foot in his mouth or lying.
5. The economy hadn’t shed 2 million jobs before an anemic recovery on Sept 11.
6. We STILL have a regime in Washington that has no desire to admit any mistakes.
7. We STILL haven’t apprehended the anthrax terrorist.
Bush is simply the worst president in my lifetime. America is less safe, less secure, less free than at any other point in my lifetime, and it’s not the terrorists fault for the misfeasance and malfeasance of this regime. The terrorists are responsible for acts of terrorism. The Bush junta is responsible for its response.
